Remotely connecting to Ubuntu 9.04
Computers - Hardware

Remote Desktop UbuntuThis log shows you how to remotely connect to a Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) machine from a Windows Xp/Vista machine. The first method uses a very fast and efficient program called FreeNX. It runs over a secure shell tunnel and you can encrypt all traffic if you wish which in my case was not needed. It runs a little smoother without the encryption running. There is a client for windows which must be installed.

The second method allows the built in Windows Remote Desktop to connect to the Jaunty box without having to install anything on the Windows side. It uses a tightVNC daemon running on the Jaunty box through which the RDP connects.

Sound Flash Trigger
DIY - DIY Logs

Watch video demonstration here

This is a construction log of my sound reactive high speed flash. Essentially it listens for a sharp sound and sets the flash off when it hears it. The entire setup cost me $7.50 because most parts were salvaged from other eTrash. This allows one to take high speed flash photography like balloons popping or bullets smashing bottles. The camera is set up for a 3 or 4 second exposure and during that time a sound triggers the flash catching the action at the speed of sound. My next project will be to run wires from the scr to the remote shutter port on the camera. When a sound is heard the camera will take a photo.

HHO Cell Construction
DIY - Struggle for power

There is no doubt about it ... the use of water to run a combustion engine more efficiently is in widespread use. I have seen numerous examples of people using HHO Cells in the vehicles and video taping the evidence of their success. There are even some examples of people running small modified engines entirely on the hydroxy gas.

DIY - Struggle for power

Earth batteryCreating light from earth, air, metal and an acidic solution is not such a major task. Oxidation and reduction can be used create a potential difference between two metals placed into an electrolytic solution. These free electrons can be used to power small electronic devices and even recharge an iPod. I noticed that the volume of electrolyte does not overly effect the amount of amps produced and have made a quick video example showing that.

DIY - DIY Logs

Digital Photo Frame As a computer repairman i find myself in possession of way too much electrical equipment and components. I try to put them to use where i can and this log has to be one of my favourites. Millions of tons of e-garbage is continuing to pile up on our mother earths skin and it is all our fault. We demand newer and smaller products for mere aesthetic reasons and upgrade our e-gadgets well before they have expired.
