I have tried to keep the language very simple where possible and any technical references have links to further information should you want to dig deeper. The concepts addressed are universal to all digital cameras as of the year 2008. At around this time the mega pixel war seems to have stopped at around 8-10mp and we now start to see super smart software functions on cameras such as image stabilizers which counteract hand shake or teeth recognition which waits for a smile before taking the photo. The general public ... you ... the consumer dictate what the manufacturers create and as a result of the need for smaller gadgets with bigger functionality cameras have become very compact. The word camera comes from latin 'camera obscura' which means 'light chamber' and in a world where chamber means unneeded space the word camera is losing its relevence. Red eye in most compact camera images is a result of having the lens too close to the flash which results in an almost direct reflection of light to and from the lens. The smaller the lens the less light that can get in, and the more lens distortion is seen yet we continue to want for smaller cameras preferably that look cool. |

Lessons and information about digital cameras and photography. Since digital cameras were developed i have followed their progress and currently work in an environment which deals with selling, testing and repairing digital cameras. These lessons are exerpts from a digital class that i hold annually which is becoming more and more popular as digital cameras proliferate into the hands of unknowing users. It is estimated that in 2008 more photos will be taken than in the total history of photography combined!!
