Page 1 of 2 This log deals with how to reverse engineer a hands free phone kit and turn it into a remote shutter release for the canon 400d and other model digital cameras. You can find these hands free kits for next to nothing and the one i am using was bought from trademe.co.nz for $2.50. The amount of e-garbage in the world is accumulating just as fast as technology is increasing and i believe in the years to come the earth will feel the impact of the out of control human virii running rampant all over its precious skin. Where it is possible manufacturers should be accepting old technology back and recyclingThe alternative scenario is acres and acres full of toxic heavy metals, gasses and other more solid toxins that leach into the ground, infect waterways and will certainly not biodegrade before our great great children have lived an entire life. Here i take a handsfree phone kit and in less than five minutes it was turned into a remote shutter release for a Canon camera that looks pretty good. Well it certainly beats paying the canon retail price for such a device.
Parts needed:Hands free kitset Earphones 2.5mm jack Headphones You really only need the 2.5 inch jack from the headphone so i will sew the headphones into a beanie (head warmer) for my winter morning runs, leaving the lead dangling out to plug into iPod shuffle which will be recharged using my USB AA Recharger. Tools needed:Soldering iron (small as possible) Scissors Exacto blade or wire cutters (small as possible) OverviewThe idea is to cut the headphones off the hands free kit (HFK) leaving only the button that you press to engage the microphone. A 2.5mm jack will be attached to the end. I will also re-enforce the cheap and nasty components inside the microphone holder. The end result is a stylish shutter release! |
